Each project undertaken will differ in size, content and the type of materials used and I am very happy to discuss all of these in detail with the client in order to produce a final piece of work tailored exactly to requirements and budget.
A whole host of materials are used in the production of calligraphy: pieces can be prepared on either traditional vellum or parchment or on one of a large selection of fine handmade art papers; lettering can be executed in a variety of inks and gouaches (artists paints) and specialist techniques include Illumination, incorporating gilding (the addition of either 24c leaf or shell gold) and Ornamentation (decorating with original artwork).
I can arrange for your calligraphy or artwork to be framed by a local picture framer and am happy to oversee the process to ensure that the most suitable mouldings and mounts are used to complement the final piece. Please contact me for a price.
Commissioning a piece of Calligraphy
1. Contact me to discuss
2. Estimate supplied
At this point I may be able to give you an outline estimate for the work to be undertaken, but I will provide a non-oligatory written estimate for the work as soon as possible thereafter.
3.Deposit and first draft
On agreement of the estimate, I will require a 50% deposit before the next stage of the process when I will produce and supply a first draft showing layout to scale, and the styles and colours discussed and agreed at the outset. This can either be emailed or posted to you, and following your approval of this, I will commence the final piece of work.
4. Work dispatched, balance due
Where appropriate, an image of the final piece will be supplied on completion and prior to dispatch. Once this has been approved, the balance is due and then the work can be delivered by the pre-arranged method, unless it is to be collected when at this point, the balance can be paid.
